Francis S. Barry works as a Senior Policy and Communications Advisor to Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg. He serves as the Mayor's Director of Speechwriting, works closely with the Mayor's Criminal Justice Coordinator on public safety issues, and has also helped to shape and implement the Mayor's initiatives to improve the city’s election, campaign finance, and lobbying laws. Barry began working for the Mayor's office in 2002 as a legislative aide and served as Research Director of the 2003 Charter Revision Commission.
Previously, he had worked as a press officer and policy analyst at the City's Campaign Finance Board. He received a master's degree in public administration from New York University, where he won the Spero Prize for outstanding written work, and is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame.
