Ron Deutsch is spearheading the Omnibus Consortium, a coalition which is working on developing a fair
and equitable solution to the property tax crisis in New York State.
He is also the Director of New Yorkers for Fiscal Fairness (NYFF), which runs the Better Choice Budget Campaign, a coalition of over 100 labor, community, and faith based organizations representing nearly 1 million New Yorkers. According to Ron, the Better Choice Campaign has had great success in 2009, as all but two of the Campaign's priorities were enacted into law this year through the state budget. "The revenue-generating measures we supported prevented many harmful cuts to state services that would have otherwise occurred," according to Deutsch.
Ron began his career in social justice working for SENSES (Statewide Emergency Network for Social and Economic Security). Ron took over as Executive Director of SENSES in 1997 and worked there for 13 years. While at SENSES Ron was instrumental in the development of the State’s Wheels for Work Program which helped low-income people get access to transportation. He also authored numerous publications including the annual Counterbudget, which called for greater fairness and equity in the State’s budget process. While at SENSES, Ron worked on Federal Welfare Reform, low-income transportation issues, state TANF issues, asset development policies and a host of other issues. Ron also formed MicroBizNY, a statewide network of organizations that assist low-income people in starting or developing a small business.
Ron has served on numerous boards and steering committees including the Hunger Action Network of NYS, Common Cause NY, Saratoga County EOC, Asset Development Institute of Brandeis University, Brooklyn Economic Development Corporation, Health Care for America Now, Fiscal Policy Institute Policy Board, and others.
Ron is a graduate of SUNY Albany where he majored in Sociology. He is married, lives in Saratoga, where he is active in various community groups, and has three children.
